The Brewery

The Brewery

Nakaoki Sake Brewery was established in 1923 (Taisho 12) in Okitama’s Kawanishi Town, surrounded by Mt. Azuma on the east, the Asahi Mountains on the west and the Iide Mountains on to south, and nurtured by the water of the Mogami River. In hopes that people drink sake together happily and peacefully, the sake was named "Uyo Ikkon".
With the goal of producing sake loved by local people, we have been up to the present day, been led by the three self-admonitions received from the person who gave the guidance on sake brewing to Yoshishiro Takahashi, the president of the company at the time of its founding.

Dedication to Sake Brewing

Dedication to Sake Brewing

"The self-admonition - The basics of making good sake are being serious about brewing sake and working seriously.
Sake brewing is so deep that the road to brewing sake is hard and people cannot master it. The god of sake brewing is in a pure heart." There is no goal in brewing good sake, so you should devote yourselves to it every day without being too proud of reaching the goal. If you work hard to make good sake in this way, the god of sake will surely give the you the answer and allow you make good sake.
This is the attitude that the first president, Yoshishiro Takahashi, received from his respected teacher at Osaka Institute of Technology (now Osaka University's Faculty of Engineering). Keeping this teaching in mind, we have been brewing sake seriously and carefully by hand. While maintaining the tradition of sake brewing, we will continue to challenge ourselved with new sake brewing in line with lifestyles changing times. Aiming to become a proud local sake brewery, we use only rice harvested in Yamagata Prefecture, and make only special brand name sake.

What is GI YAMAGATA?

"GI YAMAGATA" is a geographical labeling system approved by the National Tax Agency on December 16, 2016. Geographical labeling is a system that protects the geographical names of high-quality products and enhances the recognition of their names and brand image. Yamagata has only one designated geographical labeling of sake per prefecture.

This GI YAMAGATA mark can be displayed on only the sake that has been recognized as meeting certain degree standards set by a screening committee including outside experts, and guarantees the quality of the sake.
